Most of these photos were taken with a used Canon EOS Digital Rebel purchased on EBay. I am using a Promaster 70-300mm Telephoto lens for most of the sports shots. I also have a Canon 35-80mm zoom lens. I just purchased a Canon 420EX Speedlite (also used on Ebay). May 2008 - I finally broke my old Canon Rebel, so purchased a new Canon Rebel XTi. I just tried Web Album Generator for making the photo pages (because it is free) and found it quit user-friendly. It has a lot fewer options for customizing the webpages than the Arles product below, but it is functional with a few options. If you like "simple" and free, then this program is a winner. I have used Arles Image Web Page Creator for the webpages. The Arles program makes it easy to take lots of photos, create thumbnail images and index pages and resize original images for web use. The original photos from the Canon Rebel are about 3 Megabytes each. Too big to display over the internet. Arles resizes the photos automatically to your choice of size. |

OK. He is not really a Tasmanian
Devil, but we named him Taz, short for you know what...because he can be wild
and full of energy.

Summer 2006
We lost a lot of digital photos when
the old Sony PC died. We now have an external hard drive for backing up the new
HP PC.
Fireplace
We decided to remove our
old pre-fab steel fireplace (with gas log) and replace it with a new high
efficiency direct-vent fireplace. The first step was to remove the old fireplace
flue, from the top of the chimney down. This took the removal of the chimney cap
and some siding. Once the flue was removed, I disconnected the gas and
electrical connections to the fireplace. Finally, I removed the mantel and trim
from the interior wall, cut back the drywall to remove the crews holding the
fireplace and with a little muscle...the old unit was out.
I capped off the chimney where the old flue exited, insulated the bottom 8 feet of the chimney chase, including adding a false ceiling, and covered everything with 1/2 foil covered foam board.
We chose a Regency Panorama 42" with a Bay front. It is large, but fits well in our family room. We paid to have the dealer deliver and install it, but really could have done it myself I think. The installation did not include any of the interior trim work, just putting it in the hole, hooking up the direct vent, gas and electrical connections.
Once the unit was in and hooked up, I completed the project by installing new tile surround (the old tile was unusable because of the adhesive the builder used), reapplied the oak trim and finally the mantel.
We really like the convenience of the remote control to turn the fire on and off. It has an adjustable blower, that comes on once the temperature gets to a certain point. You can adjust the flame height (we keep it up pretty high), and the flames look really realistic.
August 2005 Highlights
We drove to Essex Junction, VT to visit with Jill, Alec, Anna, Robb and
Toby. The weather was wonderful (a delightful change from our normal expectation
of rain). We were able to visit the Vermont Air National Guard, kayak on the
Lamoille River, fish at the Indian Grove Reservoir and relax in the hospitality
of our hosts. It was a great vacation.
Highlights
The LCB Swim Team celebrated the kids who were going to State with a party
at the pool.
Chris aged up (turned 15) just before Age Group State, so he swam in the Senior
Champs meet. He swam against Olympic hopefuls and lots of guys in their 20's and
30's. It was exciting to hear them announce the Olympic "cuts" before each
event. Chris finished a respectable 29th in the 200 Breast.
Brian was on 2 relay teams for the 11-12 Age Group Team. He swam the Fly in the
Medley Relay (LCB finished 9th) and was also on the Free Relay.
