****UPDATED - SOLD*** After owning sv/ Obsession
for 2 seasons, I am putting her up for sale...
...boat envy I guess....looking
to purchase a larger boat.
The Hunter 280 was conceived to be
a spirited performer - fun to sail and cruise. Or to just spend the
weekend on, anchored up in a romantic cove. Warren Luhrs and the rest of
the Hunter Design Team worked hard to put many of the features and
benefits usually found on their larger boats into this smaller package.
The 280 sail plan incorporates a fractional rig with a full-roach,
fully-battened mainsail and roller furling jib for easy and efficient
handling. All lines lead aft for single or shorthanded sailing. The
large cockpit provides the center from which to sail or entertain. It
offers stern rail seats, wheel steering, and a walk-through transom with
swim platform. The 280's roomy interior boasts an aft double berth, a
large private head with shower, forward V-berth, U-Shaped dinette that
converts into a large double berth, and a well-equipped galley. For
power, the 280 has an inboard diesel engine. The Hunter 280 comes
with the Cruise Pac as standard equipment.
Here are a list of the features
that drew me to the Hunter 280,
and why I think it is a great boat:

-
Newer boat -
Less Maintenance issues...Our 280 is a 1996 built boat. Many of the
other boats I looked at were mid-80's built.
-
Size Does Matter ! - I found the size of the 280 to be
ideal for 2 reasons...
1- She is small enough to learn on and to single-hand, yet
2 - She is large enough to handle Lake Michigan conditions.
-
Good Sail
Inventory and Sail handling features...She has a furling jib, a
large full-batten main with the Harken Batt-car system, Lazy-Jacks
and Jiffy Reef system....these all combine to make handling the
sails easy. And she comes with an Asymmetrical Spinnaker (and
dedicated Spinnaker halyard).
